Oliver Burke is back in Bremen. The 27-year-old scored the winning goal a few weeks ago against Holstein Kiel and received lots of praise from head coach Ole Werner after the 2-0 victory at St. Pauli last time out. Burke spoke to the media on Tuesday and discussed in detail…

…his personal journey: “My situation wasn’t the easiest. I had always felt good in Bremen and had a positive relationship with my teammates and the staff. When I returned here in the summer, I wanted to show everyone that I could do well here. Maybe my expectations were too high at the start and I wasn’t patient enough. That’s in the past now and I’m really enjoying my football here at the minute.”

…his goal against Kiel: “It was a really special moment, not just for me but also for the team. Keke’s assist was class and the goal was nice too.”

“I love the club and the fans”

…the starting XI: “Every footballer wants to be playing and fights hard to be in the starting XI. I can also influence the game a lot as a substitute too. I’m not putting any pressure on myself. My focus is on the team, with whom I want to win games. If we do that, we’re on the right track and everyone wins.”

…his contract: “I obviously would like to stay. I love the club and the fans and I’m happy to be a part of this team. I’m just focusing on the next training session and match at the minute. Every day is a new day – I’ll continue to work hard and give my all when I’m called upon.”

…the birth of his son in October: “It’s given me an extra boost. It’s an amazing feeling and I’m really proud. My son was born here in Bremen and it therefore makes playing here even more special for me. We’ve had a few sleepless nights, but I’ve got my coffee machine luckily (laughs) – I’m just really happy.”

…Christmas: “I will spend it with my family, recharge the batteries and enjoy our time together. As I don’t cook myself, I’ll leave that to the others. If I could choose something to eat, it would possibly be pigs in blankets.”
