Mitchell Weiser returned to the pitch for the first of this week’s training sessions. Werder’s number 8 has recovered from an adductor issue and took part in team training again on Tuesday.

There were, however, two notable absentees from training. Naby Keïta missed out through illness, while Niklas Stark took part in a reduced, individual programme due to a hip complaint. “Reducing his workload should help his recovery, but we’re assuming he won’t be available to us for a few weeks,” explained Clemens Fritz, head of professional football.

Milos Veljkovic, Amos Pieper, Leon Opitz and Spyros Angelidis remain in the rehabilitation phase of their respective recovery programmes.
