Niklas Schmidt has left SV Werder Bremen to transfer to Toulouse in the French top tier. News of this move was announced on Friday by Clemens Fritz, head of professional football for the Green and Whites. Both clubs agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.

“It was definitely no secret that Toulouse were interested, that we were open to a potential transfer, and that Niklas was on board with the idea. The decision was finalised in the past few hours. Niklas has been with Werder for almost half of his life, during which he overcame adversity and went on to become one of the heroes of our promotion. We wish him all the best for his future”, said Clemens Fritz.

Niklas Schmidt transferred from FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in 2012 into the Werder Bremen academy, making his debut for the Bundesliga team in 2016. He played 25 matches for Werder in the Bundesliga (3 goals), 25 matches in the 2. Bundesliga (2 goals), and 62 matches in the third division (10 goals).
