What a result! SV Werder Bremen will take all three points home from Munich after a hard-fought performance saw them record a 1-0 win against record champions FC Bayern München – the first time the Green-Whites had beaten the Bavarians in over 15 years! Mitchell Weiser scored the winning goal with a well-worked effort from a tight angle (59'), helping SVW to a historic victory.

Line-up and formation: Head coach Ole Werner chose Nick Woltemade and Romano Schmid to deputise for the suspended Marvin Ducksch and Leonardo Bittencourt (both 5 yellow cards). With Senne Lynen starting in defensive midfield, Werner chose to send out a more defensive-oriented formation for the match in Munich. Unlike last weekend's 1-1 draw against Bochum, SVW lined up in their usual 5-3-2 formation.

Werder's starting XI: Zetterer – Jung, Stark, Stage, Weiser, Lynen, Njinmah, Schmid, Agu, Woltemade und Friedl.

Bench: Pavlenka – Deman, Kownacki, Borré, Malatini, Rapp, Sato und Groß.

Werder see their opener disallowed

First-half highlights:

9th minute: An early opportunity to open the scoring for the Green-Whites! After winning the ball in midfield, Jens Stage breaks through the FCB backline and arrows in towards Manuel Neuer's goal. He  attempts a shot from a tight angle, which Neuer is equal to.

12th minute: Another good move for the visitors, who have gotten off to a bright start. Woltemade was able to get off a shot shortly after Stage's earlier attempt, but it was blocked by Upamecano. Shortly after, Weiser beats two opposition defenders but is stopped before he can get off a shot.

24th minute: What a save from Manuel Neuer. Woltemade sends a back-heel pass to Weiser, who takes aim at the net. The ball takes a deflection and looks as if it's heading into the top left corner, forcing Neuer to stretch and redirect the ball wide of the post with an incredible fingertip save.

25th minute: Goal for Werder! Justin Njinmah puts the Green-Whites into the lead! The striker starts his run in Werder's half and gets on the end of a long ball that catches the Bayern defence unaware. He keeps his cool when one-on-one with Neuer and slots home the opener!

27th minute: VAR takes another look at the goal and spots a foul in the build-up form Stage on Jamal Musiala. The decision unfortunately goes against the Green-Whites and the goal is disallowed.

28th minute: Shortly after Werder's goal is disallowed, Upamecano pops up in front of Zetterer and is able to get off a shot from close range. Werder's man between the sticks comes up big to deny the defender.

44th minute: Werder continue to pose a threat on Bayern's goal, forcing them to get in the way of several shots. Weiser's header from a Schmid free kick sails over the bar.

Weiser nets the winning goal

Second-half highlights:

47th minute: Zetterer rushes out of his goal to cut off a long ball directed at Musiala. He does well to avoid touching the ball with his hands outside of the box, collapsing on it to prevent a Bayern attacker from poking it out of his grasp.

59th minute: GOOOOOOOOOAAALLLLL FOR WERDER! This one counts! Weiser beats Davies almost on the goalline and cuts the ball back onto his left foot before smashing a shot into the roof of the goal from the tightest of angles. What a hit!

67th minute: FCB make a triple sub in order to bolster their attack. Werder have done well to thwart all their attacks so far, freeing themselves from pressure with long balls over the top of the defence to a tireless Njinmah.

79th minute: Another huge save from Zetterer! Sané's shot looks as if it's heading into the left corner, but our goalkeeper is on hand to preserve Werder's lead.

80th minute: We're in for a nervy end to this match, as Zetterer denies Bayern's Harry Kane, who was ready to head in from close range.

87th minute: Zetterer and Co. just need to hold on for a few more minutes! Our shot-stopper makes a crucial stop to deny a Mathys Tel header, pushing it onto the post before our defence is able to clear it. What a performance from our number 30 today!

90'+4 minute: It's all over! Werder beat FC Bayern 1-0!

Summary: SV Werder Bremen's game plan came off perfectly this afternoon. The defence was able to remain compact and avoid making any errors, while the team were able to attack with pace up front. In the end, the Green-Whites celebrated a deserved 1-0 win, and their first victory on the road this season, due to a hard-fought and resolute performance from the entire team.
