SVW were defeated 4-2 in an intense Bundesliga clash away to 1. FC Heidenheim on matchday 4. WERDER.DE have rounded up the reaction to the loss against the newly promoted team.

Head coach Ole Werner: “We more or less lost the match in the first half. We weren't in the game at all after going behind. When you're already struggling, you can't afford to go 2-0 down on the stroke of half time. The team reacted really well after that, but the fact that we couldn’t complete the turnaround was on us, as we gave them another goal through our own mistake.”

Head of first-team football Clemens Fritz: “We lost our composure after the early goal went in. We’ve had situations like this in the past where we haven’t lost our heads, which came down to self belief and resilience. We played better in the second half and demonstrated all the things we were lacking in the first 45. We created enough good chances, so it’s frustrating to come home empty-handed.”

Christian Groß: “We shot ourselves in the foot in the first half, because we just didn’t execute the tactics we had discussed prior to the match. We reacted after the break, but ultimately didn’t deserve the three points due to our many mistakes and lack of intensity.”

Marvin Ducksch: “We weren't tight enough to our opponents and were poor in possession. We should have calmed the game down after we got the equaliser, but instead pushed for a third and lost our heads. When we get ourselves back into a game, we can’t be allowing the opposition to regain their momentum.”

Romano Schmid: “It’s difficult to find the right words yet to summarise this match. We were totally out of the game in the first half, yet we still had two big chances and shouldn't be 2-0 down at the break. We did really well at the start of the second half and had the opportunity to turn the game around, but we were unable to do so. Instead, we handed them the win.”

Nick Woltemade: “We weren’t able to bring the necessary intensity to the game. When we couldn’t take advantage of the chance to make it 1-1, the opposition punished us and doubled their lead. We made an amazing comeback and scored two goals in quick succession, so it’s hard to pinpoint what went wrong. We didn’t show up when it really mattered, which was the case throughout the whole game.”

Milos Veljkovic: “We didn’t start the game how we had wanted to. We aimed to be all over them and at least match them in the aggression, but we definitely didn’t do that. We reacted well in the second half, but needed to stay more composed in possession. We gave away too many silly mistakes, which was a constant theme throughout the game.”
