The morale among the Green-Whites following their 3-2 defeat to Viktoria Köln was understandably low. WERDER.de has summarised the post-match reaction.

Head coach Ole Werner: “It definitely would have been a different game if we hadn’t been given the red card, but we still shouldn’t have conceded the goals in the way we did. Our defence was really weak out wide when they scored all three. It’s difficult not to dwell on that, but we know that our job now is to focus on our next task. It’s been a tough afternoon to take.”

Marco Friedl: “It’s definitely difficult when you’re down to ten men, but it was still an even game. Viktoria had only had one shot on goal before they equalised. It’s frustrating that we conceded two goals in such a short space of time. We clearly hadn’t prepared for this and will analyse our mistakes.”

Niclas Füllkrug: “We gave Viktoria an advantage with the red card. We did well in the first half, and Duckschi was at the forefront of this. After the break, Viktoria changed to a back four, which pushed us back automatically. Ultimately, we conceded three goals against a team in the third division.”

Milos Veljkovic: "We’re really frustrated. We took the lead twice and were punished for some carelessness – even teams in the third division will do that, not just Bundesliga sides. We’re really disappointed and need time to deal with what’s happened. We were a bit sloppy in challenges. We have to be there for each other when somebody loses a challenge. We simply cannot go ahead twice and then immediately concede again.”

Niklas Stark: “Conceding three goals isn’t good enough from us, even if we were down to 10. We had to keep covering lots of ground at the back. It’s tough to say why we lost this game. The result is ultimately what matters and we unfortunately didn’t get a good one today. Everybody is really disappointed. We will come together and try and take the positives. Sometimes you need a setback to get you back on track. It’s good that our next game is already on Friday.”

Jens Stage: “I can’t find the right words for today’s game. The support was there, everyone was ready but the performance was poor. Even though we were down to 10 men, we scored two goals, but still didn’t defend well as a team. We can’t be conceding three goals.”

Anthony Jung: “Losing the game with the last touch is hugely frustrating. We shouldn’t have conceded three goals and needed to see the game out despite the red card. We don’t have long to reflect on today’s game – we’ll analyse it tomorrow and our next game is already on Friday.”
