The Green-Whites were satisfied with their performance following the 1-0 loss against BVB, but were disappointed to not take any points back home with them. WERDER.DE were in the mixed zone to gather the reaction of the coaching staff and players after the game.
Ole Werner: “It’s always disappointing when you lose a game. This is once again the case today, especially because of how we played. In particular, we defended really well as a team, but unfortunately we had a few situations in the first half where the final pass just wasn’t good enough for us to make something of it. You need to be precise in these situations, because you won’t be able to hold off the opposition's attacks over the 90 minutes. Despite the fact that we can take lots of positives from the game, we’re in a position now where we need the points. It’s therefore frustrating that we didn’t use the opportunity today to get at least a point from this game.”
Michael Zetterer: “It’s very disappointing. You often tell yourself after games like this that you could’ve got more out of it. I really felt this today. We showed a good reaction to the last few weeks, which weren't so great, and brought passion onto the pitch. We knew what sort of a game this would be, that it would be tricky, and that we may have to deal with going behind. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get the equaliser.”
Leonardo Bittencourt: “We didn't give them much to work with. But against a team with this quality, all it takes is a small movement for them to play the perfect ball which leads to a goal. Tonight was very disappointing for us, because we played so well away from home. Now we have to go back to Bremen empty-handed, which doesn’t benefit us much. But the way that we played should be an incentive to win some points over the coming weeks.”
Marco Friedl: “We defended an awful lot and to a good standard over the 90 minutes. Today, we just couldn't find that final ball. Dortmund surprisingly gave us a lot of space after their first pressing line. When you exert so much mentally into your performance like in today's game, you want to come home with points."
