After a short week of training off the back of their 2-0 home win against FC Augsburg, SV Werder will be back on the road for matchday 15 to face Borussia Mönchengladbach on 15th December (20:30 CET). The Green-Whites are looking to build on last weekend’s strong performance. “Every point is important for us. Gladbach are in the same section of the table as us, so I’m expecting it to be an even game,” explained head coach Ole Werner in the pre-match press conference on Thursday.

Squad update: With the exception of Marco Friedl (adductor injury), Amos Pieper (broken ankle), Nicolai Rapp (foot injury), and Leon Opitz (torn ligament in foot), all of the Green-Whites are options for the squad. This includes Michael Zetterer, who was forced to cut his training session short in the week, but is now fit to play between the sticks.

Ole Werner on the opposition: "Gladbach play well at home and have good quality in their squad, which is made up of both young and experienced players. They want to play football and are quick up front, which is difficult to defend against, as they like to exploit gaps in behind the defence at pace."

Goals, goals, and more goals

Head-to-head record: SVW and Borussia Mönchengladbach last met in a friendly fixture over the September international break, which saw Justin Njinmah score a late winner in a 1-0 victory for the Green-Whites. The last time that SVW travelled to BORUSSIA-PARK, the teams shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Despite Marcus Thuram (48’) and Florian Neuhaus (73’) putting the Foals ahead twice in the second half, Marvin Ducksch responded to going behind both times with a goal in the 65th minute and a last-minute equaliser (89’). This game marked the 26th draw between the two sides. The Green-Whites have come out on top in 39 Bundesliga meetings with Gladbach so far, just two times less than the Foals.

Guaranteed goals?!: There hasn't been a shortage of goals in past clashes between SV Werder and Borussia, with 3.24 being scored on average per game. In addition, the last time that Gladbach drew a blank was at the end of September, where they were defeated 1-0 by RB Leipzig.

Scoring first as the key to success?: Opening the scoring against Borussia could work in Ole Werner’s team’s favour. The last time that the Foals were able to come back to win after going 1-0 down was in August last year against TSG Hoffenheim.
