On Thursday morning, the Werder players cycled to the Parkstadion in Zell am Ziller to complete their first joint session of the training camp. After the team trained intensively, the head coach spoke to WERDER.TV to give his thoughts. “The lads did well. We want to work hard on the pitch and pull together off it,” said the 35-year-old.
Despite some gloomy weather during the week, the Green-Whites trained well and Ole Werner believes everything is in place for his staff to put in some good work with his players during the camp: “There were a couple of question marks when we arrived but the training ground is in good condition,” said the head coach. “Most of the guys know this place well and the hotel is absolutely excellent. We feel really comfortable here.”
The players and the staff looked to take this positive outlook onto the pitch on Thursday morning. After a short warm-up in the adjacent sports hall, the team worked on the tactical side of things and building up play with the ball. “We are in the third week of pre-season, so it’s still about the physical demands and the workload,” said the gaffer. “Otherwise it’s about fine-tuning our procedures as a team, particularly with the ball during a game,” he continued.
Getting everyone up to speed is also on the agenda. Werner emphasised that the schedule over the coming days is jam-packed with training sessions, one-on-one meetings with the players and appointments with sponsors. “The days are demanding for all of us, but that’s a good thing. We’ll also spend lots of time together as a group and we’re hoping to find the right balance of working hard on the pitch and getting to know each other off it.”
