Rafael Borré was the last of the Green-Whites to feature in the October international break with a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador on Tuesday night. The fixture at the Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado in Quito, which sits at an altitude of 2,735 metres above sea level, ended in a 0-0 draw. Werder’s number 19 came off the bench for Colombia in the 75th minute. Luis Diaz missed a penalty (61’) and Carlos Cuesta had a goal ruled out by VAR (62’) in quick succession, with the match ending in a goalless draw.

After being rested during the 2-1 defeat against Hungary three days before, Milos Veljkovic returned to the starting XI in a vital 3-1 win for Serbia over Montenegro. The centre-back played the full 90 minutes in the back three. The Serbians will have their qualification for EURO 2024 in the bag if they are able to win the remaining group match against Bulgaria in November, where Veljkovic will likely come up against former Green-White Ilia Gruev.

Germany U19s have reached the second stage of qualification for the U19 European Championships. Head coach Christian Wörns’ side finished first in their group thanks to wins over Kazakhstan (6-0) and North Macedonia (3-1), as well as a draw with Poland (3-3). Germany came from behind three times against Poland and secured a point which ensured their place at the top of Group E. Leon Opitz only made a short cameo against Kazakhstan during the group stage. He may get more of an opportunity in the second qualifying phase, which will take place from 17th to 27th March 2024. The tournament itself will take place four months after that in Northern Ireland (15th to 28th July).
