Bad news for Justin Njinmah and Werder Bremen: the forward will be having ankle surgery in Berlin on Thursday and will be unavailable for selection for several weeks.
The attacker complained of ankle problems in the warm-up prior to Werder’s clash with Union Berlin, but was able to play after receiving treatment. Njinmah experienced an apparent improvement after having the chance to rest during the international break, but the increased workload since then has led to the issue becoming more pronounced.
“We’ve had various examinations carried out on Justin’s ankle and an intra-articular loose body was found, which was causing the problems and will now be removed surgically,” explained Clemens Fritz, head of professional football at Werder Bremen. “It’s really bad news for Justin and for us, but we’re hopeful that Justin will be back on the pitch by the end of the season,” continued Fritz.
