On Monday, 17th June 2024, Peter Niemeyer took over as SV Werder Bremen’s new head of professional football. The 40-year-old, who has succeeded SVW's new managing director for sport Clemens Fritz in the role, most recently secured promotion to the second division as managing director for sport at Preußen Münster, but is now ready for his next chapter with the Green-Whites.

“I’m thrilled to finally get started,” remarked Niemeyer. “After experiencing an emotional end to the season and promotion with Preußen Münster, I’m really looking forward to my new, exciting role and working alongside Clemens and the team. After spending time here as a player, I can hardly wait to get to know the club better off the pitch.”

Clemens Fritz is equally delighted with the appointment of Niemeyer as his successor. “We can use the weeks before pre-season training begins to allow Peter the best possible start to his time at Werder,” explained the 43-year-old. “He will take care of any issues surrounding the first team, maintaining close contact with the players, staff, and coaches, while making decisions and taking responsibility for this area of the club. I’m thrilled that we can now begin working together.”

Niemeyer represented Werder, Hertha BSC, Darmstadt 98 and Twente during his playing career, appearing 146 times in the Bundesliga, 106 times in the Eredivisie and 57 times in the 2. Bundesliga, scoring 17 goals in total.
