Senne Lynen is getting to know SV Werder Bremen better as the days go by. After making his Bundesliga debut on Friday evening, he shared his fondness of playing at the team’s home ground with the journalists. “Our fans were amazing”, he responded, “it became immediately clear how much passion surrounds this club.”

Despite having joined the team only recently, head coach Ole Werner placed his full trust in Senne Lynen and put him in the starting XI for the Bundesliga opener against FC Bayern. “I’ve been feeling good in training”, explained the Belgian, who felt as though he deserved his spot in the line-up on Friday. “The games are the best way of settling into a team and getting to know everyone properly.”

His 100% pass completion rate was displayed on the stadium screen at half-time, yet Lynen wasn’t entirely satisfied with his overall performance. “The percentage is too high”, he asserted, “it essentially shows that I played too many safe passes and didn’t take as many risks as I could’ve done – anywhere between 85 and 90 percent would have been perfect.”

Both SV Werder and the Bundesliga are new terrain for the midfielder, and he is having to get used to the fast pace and intense nature of German football. It’s evident from his impressive performance against the reigning league champions, however, that Lynen is adaptable and capable of settling into new surroundings. “Despite having been here for only two weeks, I already feel very comfortable and happy”, shared the new signing from Union St. Gilloise. “I believe that it’s my responsibility to protect the defence and give the team stability whilst supporting each individual player.” Lynen is eager to make the next step in his journey with the club throughout this week’s training sessions and ultimately against SC Freiburg on Saturday.
