A fair draw against a strong Frankfurt side

The clash between SVW and SGE ends 2-2.

Werder had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home against Eintracht. After an evenly balanced first half, SVW went into the break 1-0 up thanks to a late penalty from Ducksch (45' +2). Borré then doubled the lead in the 50th minute, before Skhiri (65’) and Smolcic (75’) got the goals to draw Eintracht back level

Squad: Dawid Kownacki and Nicolai Rapp, who missed the last match due to illness, were back in the matchday squad.

Werder’s starting XI: Zetterer – Deman, Jung, Stage, Ducksch, Weiser, Bittencourt, Veljkovic, Borré, Schmid and Friedl.

First-half highlights:

10th minute: the guests make it into Werder’s penalty area for the first time, but Marmoush can’t control the ball and Werder manage to clear their lines.

14th minute: Borré plays a clever through ball to Ducksch, but our number seven can't beat the last man for Eintracht and fails to get a shot off.

19th minute: Marmoush has the first big chance of the match, when the ball falls to him from a deflected clearance; Friedl makes a crucial block to make sure that the Frankfurt striker's effort goes wide of the post.

27th minute: Schmid has a go from distance, but his audacious long-shot misses just left of the post.

34th minute: Following an Eintracht free-kick, Werder launch a counter attack, which ends with Bittencourt cutting in from the right and curling the ball wide of the far post by a matter of inches.

45’+2 minute: Penalty converted! Ducksch puts away his penalty with composure to putSV Werder Bremen 1-0 up, after Stage was brought down in the box.

Chances for both sides at the death, but it ends all square

Second-half highlights:

50th minute: GOOAAL! The man on loan from Frankfurt puts the Green-Whites 2-0 up. Rafael Borré gets his head on Bittencourts's lobbed cross and doubles SV Werder Bremen’s lead.

60th minute: Frankfurt are piling on the pressure now and get a corner. Werder manage to clear their lines initially, but the guests remain in possession and Nkounkou whips in a cross from the left, which Marmoush can’t quite manage to get on the end of.

65th minute:Ellyes Skhiri gets a goal back for Eintracht Frankfurt, leaving Zetterer no chance as his powerful shot squeezes inside the left post.

75th minute: Hrvoje Smolcic makes it 2-2. Prior to this Hauge was fouled by Stage and the following free-kick found Smolcic, who made no mistake nodding the ball into the back of the net from close range.

80th minute: Schmid wins a foul out on the right.Ducksch whips in the following free-kick, which is met by Stage, but his header is blocked. The guests then go on the counter, but their attack is broken up by the Werder defenders.

87th minute: Ebimbe drives with the ball on the right and finds Marmoush, who shoots on the turn and forces Zetterer into a good save. The corner that followed for Eintracht is cleared off the line by Deman.

90th minute: Njimah makes a good run down the right and pulls it back to Schmid, who passes it on to Ducksch. SVW’s number seven gets a good shot off, but is denied by a top-class save from Trapp. A thrilling end to the game at the wohninvest WESERSTADION!

90’ +6 minute: Full time! The clash between SV Werder Bremen and Eintracht Frankfurt ends in a 2-2 draw.

Summary: As expected, Frankfurt were difficult to play against and SVW had to battle for every ball. However, Werder were still able to create several chances over long periods in the game. A draw was a fair result in the end.
