Second home win on the trot! SV Werder turned the game around through Rafael Borré and Justin Njinmah after falling back against 1. FC Köln, running out 2-1 winners. Ole Werner’s side struggled in the first half, but “the second half was really good,” Werner explained after the full-time whistle. Niklas Stark captained the side for the first time and was very pleased with the team performance. WERDER.DE have summarised the reaction to the win.

Head coach Ole Werner: “You have to work hard for every point. It was important that we came up with a good response after falling behind and that we continued to grow throughout the game. The start wasn’t good, but we continued to get better and better in terms of our play. The equaliser was important mentally as it meant that we had a foothold in the game. The second half was really good. In that respect, we are pleased with the performance and, of course, also with the result.”

Rafael Borré: “I’m very happy with my first start for the team, my first goal and that we won in our own stadium! I feel that we needed this win. I’m very happy here – the team trusts me and supports me well. I also want to continue to support them and help the team. I was able to enjoy the atmosphere with the fans – they helped to give a positive feeling on the pitch.”

Niklas Stark: “It was a very intense game - we went into the game with certain intensity. We knew that there was a lot on the line in this match. We put in a good team performance today – everyone was on it and concentrated – you could feel our desire to win. When we show that drive, we’re a great side. I’m happy that we were rewarded for our performance today. All those who came off the bench integrated themselves in the game and played well. Everyone worked hard for the team, which is why we won today.”

Marvin Ducksch: “We are very happy that we won the game. It was a very demanding and intense game. Then, we went behind too. However, you could see that we didn’t give up and that we continued to work hard and played our football. We showed a very good reaction and were simply united as a team on the pitch. Not only those who started the game, but also the boys who came off the bench were part of that."
