Isak Hansen-Aarøen became SV Werder Bremen’s third and final signing of the winter transfer window on Thursday. The Norwegian talent has moved to Bremen from Manchester United. The 19-year-old sat down for an interview with WERDER.DE after signing his contract, where he spoke about the next steps he wants to take and how he likes to express himself on the pitch.
WERDER.DE: Hi Isak, welcome to Bremen! How does it feel to have moved to the club on deadline day?
Isak Hansen-Aarøen: Thanks very much – it’s been a good day. I got the call, then got on a plane and now I’m here.
WERDER.DE: You’re moving from the Premier League 2 to the Bundesliga – it’s a big step up.
Isak Hansen-Aarøen: It’s definitely a big step for me, but it’s a step in the right direction. I’m really happy to be here and I’m looking forward to showing what I can do.
WERDER.DE: It’s your first season as a senior player. What are your expectations for it?
Isak Hansen-Aarøen: It’ll be very different to where I’ve been playing up to now. But I feel ready to make the step up and play here.
WERDER.DE: What made you want to join Werder?
Isak Hansen-Aarøen: I rang my agent and he told me about the opportunity. The call lasted about two minutes. I had a good feeling straight away and didn’t have to think twice about it. It was an easy decision. Werder are a big club.
WERDER.DE: You’re still only 19 years old. Are you going to be moving to Bremen on your own, or have you got people with you? And have you ever visited the city before?
Isak Hansen-Aarøen: I came here on my own, but my family are definitely going to visit me. When that happens, we can explore the city together. It’s my first time in Bremen.

WERDER.DE: You like playing as an attacking midfielder, which is a position where you’re expected to be very creative. How would you describe yourself?
Isak Hansen-Aarøen: I think that I’m a creative player. I hope I can help the team play attractive football which is fun to watch. I like to express myself and have fun on the pitch.
WERDER.DE: How do you express your creativity off the pitch? You stand out because of your tattoos – are you an extrovert?
Isak Hansen-Aarøen: I’m a bit of both. Sometimes I’m really quiet, sometimes I talk a lot.
WERDER.DE: What about when you’re on the pitch?
Isak Hansen-Aarøen: I feel at home when I’m on the football pitch. You’ll see me shouting, running around – basically being myself.
WERDER.DE: What are your goals at Werder?
Isak Hansen-Aarøen: Like I said, it’s a big step for me. I want to prove that I can take it in my stride and show the fans and the club, that signing me was the right choice.
