SV Werder Bremen have made their first new signing ahead of the 2024/25 season. Marco Grüll is set to join the Green-Whites from SK Rapid Wien in the summer. The 25-year-old will move to the Weser on a free transfer.
“We’ve been following Marco’s career path for quite a while. He’s developed really well in the last few years and has been the subject of interest in the transfer market, not least in the previous transfer window. We’re therefore delighted that we could convince Marco of our sporting philosophy and his prospects at our club, and he’ll strengthen our team in the summer,” said Clemens Fritz, Werder Bremen’s head of professional football.
“Marco is a lively and direct attacking player who’s shown his ability in front of goal in the past few years, and is a good creator too. I’m convinced that he’ll fit into our team well and continue his development here,” said head coach Ole Werner with regard to working with the Austria international in the future.
Marco Grüll is looking forward to his new challenge in Bremen: “It’s a great honour for me to be able to wear the shirt of SV Werder Bremen from the summer onwards and to be a part of this team. I’m ready to give my all and continue to develop positively in order to help the team achieve their goals.”
Marco Grüll learnt his trade in the youth systems of VfL Radstadt and SC Pfarrwerfen. He joined Rapid Wien in 2021 following spells at TSV St. Johann and SV Ried. The four-cap Austria international has made 110 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga so far, scoring 31 goals.
