Our 2023 fan day was a great experience and gave those in attendance the chance to see the players up close. “The weather allowed to us to have the perfect day this year,” rejoiced captain Marco Friedl, who recalled the terrible weather in North Germany that has affected past editions. In the end, 30,000 people were present over the course of the day, who together with their heroes on the stage, contributed towards a magnificent experience for all.

Helpers were already hard at work early on Sunday morning so as to ensure that thousands of people would be able to experience a special day of celebration. Above all, the kids enjoyed the day with a smile on their faces as they joined in with a large variety of different activities before later being able to get the players’ autographs. That 1,555 people took part in a stadium tour (1,064 in 2022) and 3,078 visited the WUSEUM (516 in 2022) highlights that this was a special day for all involved.

The events on stage were greeted with thunderous applause in this respect, as the club’s board members announced that Werder would continue to travel to Zillertal for their summer training camp and that, on 14th October, the women’s team would once again play at the wohninvest WESERSTADION. “We’d be very happy if we better the attendance from last year,” explained Frank Baumann. “As ever, my dream is to play in front of a full house at some point.”

Looking forward to the home games

The unveiling of our Bundesliga teams was the highlight of the day. Each player was introduced individually on the stage and kicked a small ball into the crowd – doubtless a special souvenir for one or two fans. “We always look forward to this event,” said Marco Friedl. “We want to enjoy it alongside the fans.”

And whenever fan day comes to a close, it means that the return of competitive games is just around the corner. This afternoon of football signals a collective kick-off ahead of the new season, where everyone wants to face the upcoming challenges together. “We’ve always had excellent supporters,” said Ole Werner in praise of past seasons. “There are definitely one or two away games that we’re looking forward to – Friday evening in Dortmund, for example. Most of all, we’re looking forward to playing home games at the one of the loudest and liveliest stadiums in the Bundesliga.”
