SV Werder Bremen have announced the signing of another new player: Olivier Deman has moved to Werder from Belgian first-division side Cercle Brugge. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.
“We have been looking at Olivier for a long time and have been in contact with him, his agent and Cercle Brügge for a number of weeks. We are very happy to have got the deal over the line. We are convinced that he will be able to help us out on the left flank and that he’ll offer us further options with his qualities,” explained Clemens Fritz, head of scouting and professional football.
Head coach Ole Werner is also pleased about the new arrival. “Olivier played his first international game for Belgium in the summer and is a very well developed player for our left side. He is very mobile and has an active and intense style of play, which will certainly benefit our game.”
The new arrival is looking ahead to his time in Bremen with optimism: “Werder are a big club and I’m happy to be able to play here at the stadium. The move to Werder and to the Bundesliga is the next step for me in my career. The level in the Bundesliga is really high and I want to prove myself here.”
The 23-year-old Belgian came through the ranks at Cercle Brugge and made 93 competitive appearances for the Belgian first-division side. He scored four goals in these games.
