SV Werder Bremen have agreed a contract extension with Romano Schmid. The Austrian midfielder signed a new deal on Wednesday.
“Romano has really developed in recent years. During his time at Werder, he has made his international debut for Austria and we believe that he hasn’t fulfilled his full potential yet either. As a result, we’re pleased that he’s extended his contract, especially because Romano had other clubs interested in him,” explained Clemens Fritz, head of professional football at Werder Bremen.
The 23-year-old Austrian international is also looking forward to his future in green and white: “My family and I feel really comfortable in Bremen. I’m convinced that we’re on the right path as a team and I’m really excited to carry on developing along these lines. I want to contribute to the success of the club."
Romano Schmid came from RB Salzburg to Werder in January 2019, but he was directly loaned out to Wolfsberger AC and then started playing for Werder after this loan spell, which ended in summer 2020. He has played 103 competitive games for the club, scoring six goals in those matches.
