SV Werder Bremen have signed another attacker shortly before the transfer window slams shut, with Rafael Borré joining SVW on loan from fellow Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt until the end of the 2023/24 season.
“Following Niclas’ move to Borussia Dortmund, it was clear to us that we still would like to make a signing in attack. With Rafael, we have managed to do that,” explained director of professional football Clemens Fritz, who emphasised that Borré is a completely different type of player to the Germany international. “We are pleased that we have managed to sign him for Werder.” The 27-year-old will not be in the squad on Saturday, though. “First of all, it was not possible to get him on the list of registered players for the game because the deadline for that was Friday lunchtime and also he will not be in Bremen today until late this evening. But, he will be at the game tomorrow and will get to know the team and the club, before then joining up with the Colombia national team on Sunday.”

Even thoughBorré will not be able to contribute on Saturday, the new signing is pleased to be joining the Green-Whites. “I have experienced Werder as an opponent and was impressed by the passion that they went into the game with. I have known about Werder since I was a child and know some of the brilliant players that have played here. Even if the last few years haven’t been easy, the club is on the right path. I am looking forward to being a part of that in the upcoming season. I have never experienced the fans in the stadium for myself, but I have heard a lot about the atmosphere and can hardly wait to get going.”
Head coach Ole Werner was very pleased with the new singing. “Rafael brings a lot of quality with him. He is a good footballer technically, who also brings a lot of running and an intense style of play. I am looking forward to him being able to join up with the squad fully after the international break.”
The Colombia international (24 caps) joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Argentinian giants River Plate in 2021. He has played 63 times in the Bundesliga for Eintracht, scoring ten goals, as well as winning the Europa League with the club in 2022.
