Wolfsburg are the Bundesliga’s form team. Niko Kovač’s side have won their last six league matches and they haven’t lost since matchday 7. “They are doing lots of things right at the moment. Results like this don’t come out of nowhere at this level. In terms of the quality of their squad, they are right up there with the top teams in the league and that is now coming to the fore after a difficult start to the season,” said Ole Werner.
Although it won’t be an easy task for the Green-Whites, Werner made it clear on Friday that his side will need to up their performance levels. “Every team has things in their style of play that you can exploit, but that has to happen at this level. Of course we analyse our opponents’ matches and prepare for them in the best way possible. In the end we have to focus on our own strengths because these are the things we can influence,” explained the boss.
In terms of the squad, Leonardo Bittencourt was unable to train on Friday due to a cold but he could still feature on Saturday. Felix Agu and Romano Schmid are both still out but the rest of the players should be fit for the game. Although his side are going into the game off the back of four defeats, Werner still has confidence in his players: “I have never struggled with having optimism, confidence and trust in my team when going into the next game. I know my team and I know that we have worked very successfully together up to this point. There is no reason to think that that will change.”
