“The team have made a good impression. Now it’s all about getting that basic level of fitness back before Christmas. We can also have some more intensive training sessions that otherwise won’t be possible during the season,” Werner continued.
The World Cup has brought about an unusual situation, but one that also brings opportunities. “This season is clearly split into two this year. That is a chance and a risk for us. We want to use the time to be successful in the second half of the season. We won’t be sitting twiddling our thumbs,” the Werder head coach reaffirmed.
The next game for Werder is set to be played next week as the side play a friendly against SV Meppen. There still however is a risk that the match could be called off – as too many absences among the opposition’s squad puts the game in jeopardy. Coach Werner was unable to provide any further updates about this. “In case it can’t go ahead we will have to look at alternatives. But at the moment, my understanding is that the game will go ahead.”
