Niclas Füllkrug made his Germany debut at the World Cup and impressed immediately – appearing in all three matches, scoring two in and assisting another in just 66 minutes of action. In Friday’s Mixed Zone, Ole Werner discussed the striker’s performance.
“Fülle did well, and played his part excellently. It’s always positive when one of our players has a good performance. Over the course of the last year he really put himself in a good position and he continued that the World Cup,” our head coach said.
The Werder boss also hopes that Füllkrug’s performances will have a positive impact on the Green-Whites. “I’m really looking forward to having him back from his holiday. He will have gained a lot of experience with his national team, and taken away a lot that he can bring to the team.”
Werner remains unbothered that Füllkrug’s showings with Germany may have raised his profile among other clubs, however, commenting: “that’s always the case when a player performs well, there’s always speculation. He performed and that’s going to get noticed. I’m working on the assumption he remains with us for the second half of the season and at the moment have no reason to believe otherwise.”
