Milos Veljkovic has been named in the Serbia squad taking part in the World Cup in Qatar. The 27-year-old becomes the second Werder player after Niclas Füllkrug to be confirmed for the tournament.
This is Veljkovic's second outing at the World Cup, following his appearance at the 2018 tournament. The 27-year-old centre-back currently has 21 caps for Serbia. Veljkovic, who signed for Werder for the 2015/16 campaign, goes into the tournament with 12 Bundesliga appearances so far this season, having scored one goal.
Milos Veljkovic: "For me, it is a dream to play in my second World Cup. We know it's going to be tough and we have to play our absolute best in every game. If we can play with the same style as we did in the qualifiers, we have a good chance. I'm in good spirits and believe in our team."
Head coach Ole Werner: "I'm happy for Milos, because he earned this with his consistent performances both for us and for the national team. Serbia are definitely in a tough group, but they also have a very good team. I believe he can have a good tournament."
Head of Scouting and Sporting Director Clemens Fritz: "We are of course delighted that Milos has been nominated along with Fülle. He has performed really well in recent months, he plays an important role in our team and already has a lot of experience despite his young age. We wish him nothing but the best with the Serbian national team."
