Romano Schmid returned to team training on Thursday morning. Werder’s number 20 was absent due to a positive COVID-19 test but had already completed an individual training session on Wednesday. Niclas Füllkrug has also returned and took part in the team’s training session on Wednesday.
Head coach Ole Werner, however, had to leave three players off the pitch. Leo Bittencourt (heel), Christian Groß (ill) and Jiri Pavlenka (collision in training) rested and are expected back in training on Friday.
Manuel Mbom and Dikeni Salifou continued to work on their return from injury individually.
