SV Werder Bremen have to change their plans for the upcoming training camp in Murcia, with the friendly against FC St. Pauli scheduled for 4th January no longer taking place. The new head coach of the second-division side, Fabian Hürzeler, does not wish to include the warm-up match in his preparations for the second half of the season.

“It’s obviously very frustrating for us. St. Pauli did inform us about the situation well before Christmas, but as a number of leagues are already back up and running or are set to return soon, and there aren’t many teams doing training camps there, we haven’t been able to find an alternative opponent so far. We’re still looking for a solution and maybe a team will open up yet, but we’ll plan the training camp with just one friendly for now, even if that’s not ideal,” explained Clemens Fritz, director of football and scouting.

The Green-Whites will be playing Swiss top-flight side FC St. Gallen on 8th January at 15:30 CEST during their training camp in the south of Spain.
