The two players Ole Werner was without for Werder’s match against Mainz 05 on Saturday, Milos Veljkovic and Leo Bittencourt, returned to the training pitch the day after the match to work on their returns.
In the build-up to Saturday’s match, Veljkovic was found to have an inflamed tendon in his thigh, and as such was unavailable for the game. There had also been doubts around the fitness of Leo Bittencourt in the week leading up to the game, as he had been out of all training sessions with a cold – he also did not feature in the home clash with Mainz.
Despite these absences, both players were on the training pitches on Sunday morning to work on their returns to the squad. At the same time, the rest of the squad were deep in the interior of the wohninvest WESERSTADION to complete a recovery program. Following Saturday’s game, focus has now turned to the DFB-Pokal and Wednesday evening’s clash with SC Paderborn (18:00 CEST).
