SV Werder Bremen will travel to face VfL Bochum on Saturday (3/9/2022 at 15:30 CEST). In an interview presented by WERDER STROM, the goalkeeper spoke about the excitement ahead of the game and the upcoming games. “I think we have an important run of games coming up against Bochum and Augsburg. We want to get through this period well in order to avoid having the pressure be on us afterwards,” he explained in a Facebook Live. He also spoke about potentially seeing out his career at Werder, as well as the injury he suffered last summer.

WERDER.DE have summed up all the key answers.

Jiri Pavlenka on...

…the defeat against Frankfurt: “It’s not easy for a goalkeeper when you concede four times. We wanted to build on our performance against Dortmund, but unfortunately weren’t able to. Our performance against Frankfurt wasn’t strong enough to take all three points.”

…the mood within the team after the game: “We were disappointed that we didn’t play to our full potential and we obviously wanted to win at home. Overall, we have a young squad and it’s really fun to be back playing in the Bundesliga.”

…the start to the season: “The games weren’t easy at all. Looking from game to game, I think that we could have two more points to our name. The players we’re up against are stronger than the ones last season. It’s bitter that we have already conceded 10 goals in our first four games.”

…the upcoming game against Bochum: “We want to deliver a strong performance and take three points back home. Bochum proved last season that they have a strong team. It’s a very important game for us. I think we have an important run of games coming up against Bochum and Augsburg. We want to get through this period well in order to avoid having the pressure be on us afterwards.”

…the coaching staff: “The entire staff is great and fit in well with the team. I think that we are much better as a whole than we were before. We have taken a big step in the right direction.”

…the support from the fans: “The fans are incredible, but they also supported us when we were in the second division. We are very happy to have such great fans.”

…potentially ending his career at Werder: “I can imagine myself ending my career at Werder. If I stay fit and happy, then I will hopefully be able to play for a few more years. Bremen is like home for my family. We have been here for six years now and if I see out my career here, then my firstborn son will start school here. We are very happy in Bremen.”
