2023/24 Bundesliga season to begin in mid-August

The DFL has announced the start, end and break dates for its competitions next season

While SV Werder Bremen are busy preparing for the return of the current Bundesliga season which is currently on a long break, a few key dates for the 2023/24 season have been confirmed. On Friday, the German Football League (DFL) confirmed the outline dates for the next campaign.

Matchday 1 will take play between 18th and 20th August, and will see the opener played on a Friday evening as per tradition. The final month of the calendar year 2023 will see the only week with multiple matchdays of the season, consisting of matchdays 14, 15 and 16, the latter of which is penciled in for 19th and 20th December. After the winter break, the Bundesliga is set to resume on 12th January 2024, with the 34th and final matchday to be played on Saturday, 18th May 2024.

As usual, the DFB-Pokal will start a week before the Bundesliga, with the first round proper to be contested between 11th and 14th August. The Supercup will also be played that week (12th August). The DFB-Pokal final will be played on Saturday, 25th May 2024 in Berlin.
