Against Dortmund, Werder proved that there is quality throughout the squad. “We obviously have a lot of individual quality. You have seen that now, even outside of the first eleven.” Despite this, the atmosphere among the team is even more important: “I think that we live off our team spirit and we have to keep doing this. It was clear to us from the beginning that with the team spirit we have, if we keep doing what we're doing, then we are able to play like there is an extra man on the pitch,” suggested Werder’s number three, who also sees an advantage in the fact that that the team know the coach and style of play well, and don’t have to learn a new way of playing. “We are still going with the flow that we had before in the second division. It has gone really well for us to just take this with us and continue as we were.”
With the promotion to the Bundesliga, Jung was able to achieve his personal goal of playing in the German top flight once again. “You could say that it was the best case scenario that we managed to come straight back up as a whole team and as a club. For me personally, to be here once again can definitely be described as a dream,” explained the 30-year-old. “I am obviously very grateful, but I also know that I have done a lot in the last few years in order to achieve this. So it is also a case of you get out of it what you put in. Now it’s about enjoying this time and putting in the best performances possible.” The defender’s contract runs out in the summer, but he believes that a longer stay in Bremen is entirely feasible: “I am now at an age where I am not fussed about upping sticks and travelling around too much. I have already had experience abroad and I now have a family. We are really happy in this city and I am really happy at this club. We had an amazing season last year and we have made a solid start to this one. There are a lot of things going for Werder Bremen,” concluded Jung.
