SV Werder Bremen have a new captain. Marco Friedl will lead the team for the upcoming Bundesliga campaign. The 24-year-old was voted the one to wear the armband by his teammates and said it was an absolute honour. “I’m really pleased to have the trust of the boys. It’s a great responsibility for me to represent this club as captain on and off the field.”
Milos Veljkovic was voted vice-captain by the team. The rest of the team council will be made up of Leonardo Bittencourt, Niclas Füllkrug and Christian Groß.
“I think we have a team council that represents the different characters in our squad and offers every player someone to talk to. They will carry responsibility together and lead the team as a group. Marco is the one who has been voted captain. That is definitely a sign of the trust that the rest of the team have in him. It’s definitely a new role for him, and one that I’m convinced he will carry out well,” said head coach Ole Werner.
