So far, there has been no getting past Anthony Jung in the current Werder squad. The left-back, who was already a key starter last season, is having yet another great season. On Wednesday, Jung spoke about his own future, his role as a ‘wing-back’ and his development in the green and white.

...his future: “At 31, I don’t need to set myself any longer-term goals. I feel very fit and healthy. I’m still enjoying my football. I like coming to training and being on the pitch. As long as these factors stay that way, then let’s see how long the journey continues.”
...a potential contract extension: “I’m relatively relaxed and don’t think about it much. My family and I feel very at home in Bremen. We speak a lot about staying here.”
...the dynamism in defence: “As it is, it’s working well. It’s about our asymmetry. Especially in our build-up play, we always shift well. Mitch has his strengths up front and we want to bring in everything that helps the team out. Logically speaking, I sit deeper than Mitch. But it’s also because my strength lies in to relieve some pressure situations well and to make sensible decisions in the build-up.”
...the competition with Lee Buchanan: “I never get the feeling that I can let my guard down. I know that he’s just behind me who is applying the heat.”
...the team’s achievements: “Our performances have between solid and good, but not everything’s working perfectly yet. Realistically, we were also quite lucky to get the three points against Hoffenheim. We have to stay greedy and want to continue to develop, not only as individual players but also as a whole team. That should be the goal for us right now.
...the high spirits amongst the squad: “We’re enjoying the moment and, of course, get what’s happening across the city and the stadium during the weekend. It’s never a given thing and so we’re taking that with us.”
...the atmosphere in the dressing room: “There’s a healthy balance between having fun in the dressing room and being focused in training, where it’s all about precision and sharpness. We all staying grounded.”
