After Werder’s away game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday, 17th September (15:30 CEST), a number of our players will link up with their respective national teams. Between matchdays 7 and 8 in the Bundesliga, the last international break before the World Cup in Qatar is taking place - the UEFA Nations League awaits the Werder players who have been called up to represent their national sides.
Milos Velkovic will play for Serbia, while Jiri Pavlenka will join the Czech national squad. Marco Friedl and Romano Schmid represent Austria in the third running of the UEFA competition, and Ilia Gruev has been called up to the Bulgaria squad for the first time in his career. Fabio Chiarodia and Mio Backhaus have been named in Italy and Germany’s respective U19 squads, as they go for qualification to the U19 European Championship. Lee Buchanan could be named in England’s U21 squad.
