The 4-2 win crowned off a special game of football: SV Werder defeated Hertha BSC in front of an incredible away crowd and took a big step towards their goal of staying in the league. Here is the reaction of Ole Werner and the players to the match.
Head coach Ole Werner: “The setting was extraordinary today: we were in a different stadium, but the atmosphere made it feel like a home game. The fans were incredible. It was important for us to get off to a good start, and then everything went our way. We defended with discipline and played good football. From my point of view, these things were decisive in the end.”
Marco Friedl: “It was a difficult week for us as we didn’t know how Hertha would shape up with a new coach. We worked hard together and kept the focus on our own game. I have to praise the team first as we came together really well, but Duckschi did a sensational job today. When one is missing, the other is still there. We’ll go home, rest and then have another chance for three points next week.”
Marvin Ducksch: “"Wow, that was an unbelievable away match. The fans made it a home game for us. This gave us added motivation and energy. I still can’t believe that I’ve now scored my first hat-trick. We've had to take setbacks as a team, but today we rewarded ourselves. I’m very, very happy about that."
Niklas Stark: “It was strange to walk into the away dressing room here. I tried to block that out and concentrate on the game. We have to thank the fans for the level and amount of support. We’re pleased that we were able to score four goals, but nevertheless we have to prevent the moments when we concede goals.”

Mitchell Weiser: “That was a special game today. The fact that we took our first chance at the start was good for us. After that, however, we also missed two clear-cut chances in the first half. I’m not someone who looks at the table; I just knew that we hadn’t won in six games and really wanted this win. We still know the areas our mistakes are in, and we conceded two needless goals today. We have to keep working on that.”
