Germany’s first game in Bremen in 11 years will be a special one, and not just for the locals. It will be the 1,000th game in Germany’s history, with Ukraine set to visit the wohninvest WESERSTADION for a charity match on Monday evening  (12/6, 18:00 CEST). Niclas Füllkrug is part of Germany’s 26-man squad for the game.

Füllkrug made his debut for Hansi Flick’s team during preparations for the 2022 World Cup back in November and has now won six caps, scoring six goals in just 265 minutes on the pitch. He is naturally looking forward to a potential seventh match for his country. “Playing for your country at your home ground is something really special,” he said. “I’ve got a different kind of connection with the people here.”

The Bundesliga top goalscorer for 2022/23 was excited as soon as the announcement for the game was made. “It’s a small landmark and will go down as part of history,” said the 30-year-old. “I’m sure that Bremen, the stadium and the fans will do this game justice and they will all be looking forward to watching the Germany players.” Füllkrug’s wife and daughter are set to be in the crowd to support him.

The striker is also looking ahead to future challenges, namely EURO 2024 to be held in Germany next year. “That’s the main focus for me,” stressed Füllkrug. “We want to play well and use this chance of an international game.”
