SV Werder Bremen have signed a talented youngster from the USA. 18-year-old Ethan Kohler has made the move to Bremen from Oakland Roots.

“Ethan is a very ambitious player, with a good vision and a good understanding of the game. He has developed well so far and can play as a centre-back as well as a number six. We see him primarily as a number six and want to continue his development with us,” explained Clemens Fritz, head of scouting and professional football.

The 18-year-old, who was most recently at Oakland Roots in the USL Championship, will initially begin his preparation with the U23s and then train regularly with the first team from 5th July. “Our goal is to use Ethan in the U19s as well as in the U23s. He should also get playing time in the planned friendly matches for the U23s,” continued Fritz.

Ethan Kohler, who has already spent several weeks in Bremen and put himself forward for a transfer, is looking forward to his time at SVW: “Of course it is a huge step for me to move from America to Europe, but Werder is a big club in Germany and I’m really looking forward to the challenge in Bremen.”
