Christian Groß will continue to play at SVW in the future. The defensive midfielder and Werder have agreed on an extension of his contract, which will run out in summer, until the 30th June 2024. Clemens Fritz, head of scouting and professional football, announced the news on Monday after the 2-0 away win against VfB Stuttgart.

“Grosso has made great progress in the mere four years he has been a part of the first team squad. He is an important member of the team both on the pitch and in the dressing room. We are happy that he still sees his future at Werder. He is very fit and I am convinced that we will benefit from his qualities and personality on and off the pitch, both now and in the future,” explained Clemens Fritz.

Christian Groß also looks forward optimistically to his future at the Green-Whites. “Everyone knows that I feel completely at home at Werder and in this team. I would like to play my part in continuing the progress we have made in the last year and a half.”

The 33-year-old came into the professional squad in the 2019/20 season, having been captain of the U23s. Since then, he has played in 52 Bundesliga matches, 27 2. Liga games, 2 relegation play-offs and 5 DFB-Pokal matches. He has scored one goal in a total of 86 professional matches.
