Team news: Ole Werner has a full squad to choose from with all players involved in training. New signing Jens Stage will play a maximum of thirty minutes. Kyu-hyun Park will not play after sealing a loan move to SG Dynamo Dresden for the upcoming season.
The head coach: "In Besiktas, a real tough test lies ahead of us to end the camp. Our aim is to improve the speed of our play and to maintain that high tempo against an opponent as strong as Besiktas. We want to try out different tactical things to the last game against KSC. We've switched things up a bit tactically over the last few days with the aim of simplifying the game.”
The opposition: It's another ambitious opponent for SVW in preseason. The side coached by former Werder player Valérien Ismael finished last season in sixth place in the Turkish Süper Lig. One year prior they celebrated their 21st league title, also lifting the Turkish cup and supercup. Kenan Karaman (Düsseldorf) and Wout Weghorst (Wolfsburg) are two players who followers of the Bundesliga will probably recognise.
Last meeting: The last match between Werder Bremen and Besiktas came 13 years ago. Great names such as Mesut Özil, Per Mertesacker and Torsten Frings wore the green and white of Werder in that 2009 game, though we were forced to endure a 2-1 defeat. There have been two other meetings between the sides, with a certain Ailton scoring three times as Besiktas triumphed 3-2 in 2006. We avenged that loss in 2007 with a 4-0 win. Hugo Almeida (2x), Miroslav Klose and Nalso were on the scoresheet that day.
How to watch: The match will be available to watch live on YouTube and WERDER.TV thanks to our partners EWE.
