SV Werder Bremen have begun their Bundesliga delegation trip to Vietnam in Hanoi. The week-long visit began in the capital on Monday. The Green-Whites were accompanied and supported by the Economic Development Agency for Bremen, with the help of Bremeninvest’s office in Vietnam and Werder’s official partner, Lecka Nutrition.

A number of interactive events were held in a German-speaking school on Tuesday alongside a special training session. The participants were children and teenagers from the Blue Dragon Children Foundation, a non-profit, non-government organisation that aims to help young people who have been affected by sex trafficking, forced labour or slavery and to provide them with access to shelter, education and employment.

“We’ve had a really warm welcome everywhere”

The foundation therefore provides opportunities to children impacted by these issues to help better their lives. The Blue Dragon Children Foundation also actively supports those affected while they deal with the traumatic experiences they’ve had to endure. Around 80 youngsters took part in the Green-Whites’ training session.

The inaugural edition of the Lecka Cup, a friendly football tournament organised by Werder’s local partners, Lecka Nutrition, was held on Wednesday. “We’ve had a very warm welcome at all of our events here in Vietnam so far.  We’re delighted to see so many smiling faces. It shows us that we’re on the right track. Our aim is to organise various events that combine sport and education,” said Dominik Kupilas, Werder Bremen’s head of fan and business development. He is SVW’s representative on the delegation trip, which started on 27th November and will finish on 1st December.

Football development programme pivotal to Werder’s strategy

Werder’s presence in Vietnam has come about as a result of the Green-Whites’ internationalisation strategy and is based on several key points, from close co-operation with local partners, to the organisation of events such as watch parties or media appearances, as well as collaborations with influencers in an effort to boost the SVW brand. Phat Freestyle and Vu Manh Tuyen, two popular influencers with a combined audience of several million followers, recently attended one of Werder’s home matches.

The launch of the Football Development Programme on 2nd September has further reinforced the club’s commitment to international growth. The programme aligns with the SPIELRAUM project, which aims to inspire children and young people to get involved with sport and foster a passion for football and Werder Bremen. 150 children were involved in the first six sessions. Werder’s next stops on the trip will be Ho Chi Minh City and Da-Nang, the third-largest city in Vietnam.
