There was also a footballing focus at the following event, which, just like the day camp with Phat, was supported by tea company Hibiso. Two teams from the Haiphong and Hanoi football schools faced off against each other in the “Hibiso Football School Battle”. The sides came from two locations of the Football Development Programme, which SVW actively supports. The next sporting appointment was Werder’s meeting with Haiphong FC, as the delegation was invited to the team’s home fixture against HAGL FC. This Matchday 9 fixture of the V-League, the Vietnamese top-flight, ended 2-0 to the hosts. The delegation had also met representatives of FC Hanoi the day before.
“The first few days were very eventful and had a varied schedule. Visiting the tournament between the Hanoi and Haiphong Football Development Programme teams was special, because it was clear to see that we are playing an active role in the community, we are getting young children moving and that they are having lots of fun. It was inspiring to see the kids’ passion out on the pitch and the enthusiasm of the coaches we have trained on the touchline,” commented Dominik Kupilas, Werder’s head of fan and business development, who has once again made the journey to South-East Asia.
