A delegation of SV Werder Bremen began its latest trip to Vietnam a few days ago. This is the third visit of the South-East Asian country in the last 12 months for the Green-Whites, who are also acting as ambassadors of the Bundesliga. The agenda for this trip includes hosting training sessions for young people, visiting educational institutions and meeting with representatives from local businesses as well as politicians.

It all kicked off with a reunion with old friends. Phat Freestyle, who was at Werder’s home match against Bayer Leverkusen in recent weeks, invited local children to a day camp in partnership with Hibiso. He showed off his skills before teaching those in attendance their first football tricks.

There was also a footballing focus at the following event, which, just like the day camp with Phat, was supported by tea company Hibiso. Two teams from the Haiphong and Hanoi football schools faced off against each other in the “Hibiso Football School Battle”. The sides came from two locations of the Football Development Programme, which SVW actively supports. The next sporting appointment was Werder’s meeting with Haiphong FC, as the delegation was invited to the team’s home fixture against HAGL FC. This Matchday 9 fixture of the V-League, the Vietnamese top-flight, ended 2-0 to the hosts. The delegation had also met representatives of FC Hanoi the day before.

“The first few days were very eventful and had a varied schedule. Visiting the tournament between the Hanoi and Haiphong Football Development Programme teams was special, because it was clear to see that we are playing an active role in the community, we are getting young children moving and that they are having lots of fun. It was inspiring to see the kids’ passion out on the pitch and the enthusiasm of the coaches we have trained on the touchline,” commented Dominik Kupilas, Werder’s head of fan and business development, who has once again made the journey to South-East Asia.

Meeting with businesses and start-ups

Alongside the sporting and social aspects of the Werder delegation’s trip to Vietnam, the Green-Whites also strengthened their economic relations with the South-East Asian country. SV Werder took part in an event hosted by Bremeninvest (WFB), at which more than 50 different Vietnamese businesses and start-ups were present.

“We were really pleased that so many companies were at the event, and that we, as Werder Bremen, had the opportunity to report on our activities with this circle. Such meetings are important for us to build our network with the local economy. Therefore, it’s ideal when we can attend such professional and well organised events, such as the one put together by Bremeninvest,” added Kupilas, who will engage in further visits over the next few days.
