SV Werder successfully kicked off their project in Vietnam with a number of activities on Independence Day. Freestyle footballer “PhatFreestyle” introduced passers-by in Hanoi to the Green-Whites through his street performances, and the first ever Werder watch party took place in Vietnam for the home match against 1. FSV Mainz thanks to SVW partner Lecka Vietnam. The “Football Development” programme for children and training for coaches is also set to begin over the next week, exemplifying SV Werder Bremen’s intensified efforts to incorporate Vietnam into their internationalisation strategy.

Many Vietnamese Werder fans attended the club’s event on 2nd September to celebrate Independence Day at the Croia Caffeteria in the centre of Hanoi. Naby Keïta, who is unfortunately still recovering from his injury, took part in a digital question and answer session and provided them with an unforgettable experience. The four-time Vietnam football freestyle champion and influencer “PhatFreestyle” then provided an impressive performance and showcased his skills to the guests. The atmosphere at the event was electric from the moment that Marvin Ducksch slotted away the opening goal just after kick-off. The night was an overall success and everyone who was in attendance is already looking forward to the next one.

“PhatFreestyle” puts on a show for the fans

As part of the announcement for the watch party and other Werder events, “PhatFreestyle” performed on the streets at various landmarks in Hanoi such as the Temple of Literature and St. Joseph’s Cathedral, giving passers-by the opportunity to win certain items of Werder merchandise. “PhatFreetyle” has several hundred thousand followers across his social media accounts, including Facebook and TikTok.

Together with the Bundesliga and their media partner NextMedia, SV Werder have also organised an online raffle for the chance to win a signed home shirt from Naby Keïta. The raffle generated a high level of engagement on social media and contributed to the overall success of the kick-off activities.

“We’re very pleased with the enthusiasm there”

“We’re very pleased with how well the project has ignited the enthusiasm there, and our expectations for the first activities were totally exceeded. It’s great to see how a community of Werder fans has already formed there in such a short amount of time. I would like to thank our partners, Lecka Vietnam, Schächter Sports and Next Media, as well as the DFL, for their great support and organisation,” said Klaus Filbry, SVW CEO.

Werder will also start their “Football Development” programme in Hanoi in the coming weeks, with a focus on delivering training sessions to children and nurturing future coaches. Opportunities like these are already being very successfully implemented regionally within the framework of the club’s SPIELRAUM project, thanks to the expertise of the Werder academy and the Werder football school.
