The fact that Jung is really starting to find his bearings at wing-back is underlined by his winning goal on the weekend. “It felt amazing at the time to score the winner and it still does now. I’m happy about the goal and being able to help the team pick up three points,” said Spanish-born Jung. Despite his second goal of the season also coming from a header like his first, he doesn’t consider himself an aerial specialist. “I think it would be an exaggeration to call me that. I think anyone could have scored the goal in Hannover, although the one against KSC was a bit trickier. There have been a few jokes in the changing room, but I won’t welcome the nickname until I score another header – then we can talk about it. For now, I have other main responsibilities out on the pitch.”
There wasn’t much sign of ecstasy immediately following Jung’s goal though. Instead, he was a picture of focus and seriousness. “The initial feeling after the goal was relief. I looked around and thought that the lads are all too knackered to come and celebrate. Then I was worried that it might be offside, but it couldn’t have been,” says Jung, explaining his reserved reaction. “I’ve had a laugh with my mates about it. If I score again, I will have a celebration lined up – there’s definitely room for improvement. I’m open to inspiration.
